An article I wrote about two politicians’ efforts to rename the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts after former state Rep. Jimmy Long of Natchitoches. Long, who died in a car accident in August 2016, was the elder brother of Sen. Gerald long, pictured above left. The renaming proposal provoked an outcry from alumni and was one of the most contentious pieces of legislation in the 2017 session.
